How to make your pet feel comfortable and safe when traveling

Regardless of the conditions, travel plans can be stressful. If you want to travel with your pet, you need to consider everything from checking the hotel's pet policy to ensuring that your pet is allowed to travel in the state or country you are visiting. With some preparation, traveling with pets is a pleasant experience for everyone involved.

Put your pet in the travel bag

Although it is tempting to allow your pet to roam freely in the back seat during long trips, it is usually best to keep them in a cage separately. The pet will feel safer in his cage because he is used to using it as a safe haven. As a bonus, pets traveling in a sturdy crate are safer than unconstrained.

Don't pack toys in pet crates

At home, it is a great thing to have a lot of toys for your pet to play with-but on long trips, it is not so good. When you put all your pet's favorite toys in their crates, you take up all their available space. If the crates overflow, they may not be able to move or modify their position. You want them to be as comfortable as possible, but you don't want to overcrowd the container. So in this case it is almost like less is more.

Check if you have all the necessary paperwork

If you are going to travel long distances with your pet, please make sure you have all the necessary documents. Many jurisdictions require that new dogs must be accompanied by a current health certificate issued by a nationally recognized veterinarian. To ensure that your pet is healthy, the veterinarian will check whether it has been vaccinated with all the vaccines required by NSW or the country. If you plan to travel, you should ask the airline in advance for any other documents used to transport your pets.

Easily find your pets in case they are lost

The worst place for a pet to disappear is an unknown location far from home. If there are problems, make sure to find them easily before you go. If your dog or cat gets lost, you can use a microchip to track them, no matter where they are in the country. If you don’t want to complete the procedure, at least make sure that the contacts on their labels are up to date.

Avoid eating on travel days by skipping meals

No matter how much you understand, your pet will always have a certain degree of anxiety. If your pet is experiencing stressful diarrhea, this is the last thing you want to do during a long car or airplane trip. Even if they did not show any signs of stress before the trip, simple motion sickness can easily cause your pet to vomit. If you know that your pet is sensitive to food, it is a good idea to leave it on an empty stomach. Both pets and related personnel will benefit from this change. Even if your pets are begging for food, you shouldn't deprive them; just give up the last meal you usually give them before departure.
